PMI Jakarta Encourages Acts of Kindness

The 80th anniversary of Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) at the Jakarta Provincial level, themed "Spread Kindness", was held at Brigif Reservoir, Jagakarsa, South Jakarta.

"...we can strengthen national unity through humanity,"

This event was commemorated with a ceremony led by Chairman of National PMI, Jusuf Kalla, and attended by Jakarta Assistant for People's Welfare Ali Maulana Hakim; PMI management from provincial, city, and regency levels; as well as partners from the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, ICRC, IFRC, American Red Cross, and Japanese Red Cross.

South Jakarta PMI Serves 7,719 Residents

Chairman Jusuf Kalla emphasized that the anniversary serves as a moment to strengthen the spirit of humanity.

"PMI's anniversary is not just a celebration, but an invitation to continuously spread kindness. Through sharing, helping, and caring, we can strengthen national unity through humanity," he pointed out, Wednesday (9/17).

PMI Secretary General, Abdurrahman Mohammad Fachir, exlained that the anniversary, held across 497 PMI branches throughout Indonesia, is a momentum to reinforce the humanitarian spirit.

"Today, from Papua to Aceh, all are carrying out the same activities with the same theme," he said.

Fachir urged all officials, volunteers, and others to use this moment as a guide to fulfill PMI's duties: providing national blood needs, handling various disasters, and delivering health and social services.

"We consider climate change as part of global disaster, so real actions must be taken," he noted.

According to him, PMI currently has one million volunteers throught Indonesia who are committed to providing fast and accurrate services.

"Now we also have a new icon at PMI. For every disaster, besides distributing aid packages, we must also provide clean water assistance for disaster survivors," he mentioned.

Meanwhile, PMI Jakarta Chairperson, Beky Mardani, explained that the event was also enlivened with various activities for the public, such as free health check-ups for 500 residents, including blood type, blood sugar, cholesterol, and blood pressure tests.

There was also education on Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) for 250 students at SDN Ciganjur 02 Pagi, first aid socialization, and environmental cleanliness campaigns for residents around the school.

Beky added that the 80th PMI anniversary in Jakarta featured the planting of 800 productive trees and the release of 500 fish fingerlings in Brigif Reservoir.

"We thank all related parties, including Education Agency, KPKP Agency, Tamhut Agency, and others who have helped make this event successful," he expressed.
